Forwarding Emails and email addresses

When you forward an email, everything in the email gets forwarded to others. This includes their email address. Best way to explain it is to give a demonstration

John emails Steve a joke

Steve gets the joke and likes it so he forwards it to Mary but doesn't delete John's email address.

Now Mary gets the email address and see's John's email address as well as Steve's email address. She knows that she has two valid email addresses. She likes the email so she forwards (without deleting everyone's email addresses) to ten people without using blind copy (BCC).

Now the ten people have each other's email address plus John, Steve and Mary's email addresses

Then the ten people forward it to all their friends and the email addresses are shared with numerous people. Before long thousands of people can see your email address.

Eventually the forwarded emails will reach someone you don't know that may not be a criminal, hacker or someone with the wrong intentions. This person will know that all the email addresses in the list is valid.

When you forward an email address, delete everyone's email addresses listed in the body before you send it to protect the person.

Example, In the body of the email below, Highlight the email address sections of the forwarded email and then press the delete key.

Now it will look like this and no one will see the previous email addresses

When you send an email to numerous people you can put their email address in the BCC field to help protect them.
