Uninstall Modem

Here is how to uninstall and reinstall dial-up modem

Uninstall

  1. Go to control panel (This link will open in a different window)
  2. Double-click on Add/Remove Programs
  3. If the modem is listed there, highlight the modem (it may not be listed)
  4. Click on Remove
  5. If it wants to reboot, say No.
  6. Close Add/Remove Programs back to Control Panel
  7. Double-click on Phone and Modem
  8. Click the Modem tab
  9. If the modem is listed there, highlight it.
  10. Press the Delete Key
  11. Say Yes
  12. Close Phone and Modem back to the Control Panel
  13. If it wants to reboot, say No.
  14. Double-click on Systems
  15. Click on the Hardware tab
  16. Click the Device Manager button
  17. If the modem is listed here, highlight it
  18. Press the Delete key
  19. Say Yes
  20. Reboot the computer

Install

First method

If windows has a native driver for the modem it will install automatically.

Second method

Install the modem CD and click on Setup. Follow the prompts

Third method

  1. Go to Device Manager
  2. Right click on the modem (probably listed under Other devices and probably listed as PCI Simple Communications but may be listed differently depending on the brand of modem)
  3. Click on Update Driver
  4. Put the modem CD in
  5. Click Next
  6. If the driver is in the root directory of the CD, the system should see the driver. If it is not, you may have to manually point the detection to the proper directory.
