Using two modems to speed up dial-up

As we all know, downloading from dial-up is a very slow process. Unfortunately not everyone has access to high speed. Depending on your system and your internet provider, you may be able to speed up your internet download speed. The process is called Multilink. Some Internet providers may not support this feature. There may be a fee to use the Multilink feature. Check with your internet provider for details.

To setup Multilink, do the following

  1. This procedure requires two modems. You will need to install a second modem.
  2. Go to control panel (This link will open in a different window)
  3. Double-click on Network Connections
  4. Right click on your dial-up ISP (Internet Service Provider)
  5. Click on Properties
  6. Click the Networking tab
  7. Make sure PPP is showing in the Type of Dial-Up Server field.
  8. Click on Settings
  9. Select Negotiate Multilink For Single Link Connections
  10. Uncheck Enable LCP Extensions.
  11. Click on OK
