Junk mail 

Outlook has a Junk mail feature. To adjust the options for the junk mail, do the following.

  1. Open Outlook
  2. Click on Actions
  3. Click on Junk E-mail
  4. Click on Junk E-mail Options
  5. Set the options according to how you want them set.
  6. Higher the setting more junk mail will be caught but some wanted mail may be sent there as well. You will have to check the junk mail folder to see if any wanted mail is in there also. If there is you will need to add them to the Safe Senders and Safe Recipients list.

There is five tabs under the Junk E-mail Options (click on the hyperlink for more information)

After you get an email you can manually do the following

  • Add Sender to Blocked Sender List
  • Add Sender to Safe Senders List
  • Add Sender's Domain (@example.com) to Safe Senders List
  • Add Recipient to Safe Recipients List
  • Mark as Not Junk
  • Junk E-mail Options

To access the above choices do the following

  1. Open Outlook
  2. Click on Actions
  3. Click on Junk E-mail

 

Options

Here is the different options you can set

  • No Automatic Filtering. Mail from blocked senders is still moved to the Junk E-mail folder.
  • Low: Move the most obvious junk e-mail to the Junk E-mail folder.
  • High: Most junk e-mail is caught, but some regular mail may be caught as well. Check your Junk E-mail folder often.
  • Safe Lists Only: Only mail from people or domains on your Safe Senders List or Safe Recipients List will be delivered to your Inbox.

You can also set it to permanently delete suspected junk e-mail instead of moving it to the Junk E-mail folder. (The danger of this is that if it mistakes an email for junk. You will make sure your junk mail settings are set correctly as far as safe senders and safe recipients)

Safe Senders

You can add email addresses or domain names to this list that you never want to be treated as junk mail. for example if you add support@UpgradeNRepair.com to the list, anything sent to you from that address will be considered safe, but if john@UpgradeNRepair.com sent you an email, it might be treated as junk email depending on the contents. Now if I just added UpgradeNRepair.com to the list then any email address from the domain name UpgradeNRepair.com will be treated as safe.

Safe Recipients

You can add email addresses or domain names to this list that you never want to be treated as junk mail. for example if you add support@UpgradeNRepair.com to the list, anything You send to that address will be considered safe, but if you send email to  john@UpgradeNRepair.com , it might be treated as junk email depending on the contents. Now if I just added UpgradeNRepair.com to the list then any email sent to that address will be treated as safe.

Blocked Senders

Here you can block email addresses or domain names. These will not be allowed to reach your system.

International

Allows you to control email from international.

 

You can also use the rules wizard to create a rule to delete email with specific words in body or subject line. You can also use the rules wizard to move email to another folder, delete the email, forward it and other features. Click here to go to the rules wizard.
