Deleting Normal.dot

Deleting the Normal.dot will reset any special settings you have such as font, font size or other settings. You may have to reset them afterwards.

 

This step may fix other issues in Word or other office products.

 

Click on the hyperlink for instructions for that step.

 

This will not work for Office XP.

 

For Office 2003, follow these steps

  1. Do a search for Normal.DOT

    1. Access Run or Search window

    2. Type Normal.dot

    3. Click OK

  3. Highlight the normal.Dot that the search finds.

  4. Press Delete and say yes to confirm the deletion.

  5. If there is more than one listed then repeat steps 2 and 3 till all of them are gone.

  6. Reboot the computer.

 

For Office 2007, follow these steps

 

  1. Do a search for Normal.DOT

    1. Access Run or Search window

    2. Type Normal.dotm

    3. Click OK

  4. Press Delete and say yes to confirm the deletion.

  5. If there is more than one listed then repeat steps 2 and 3 till all of them are gone.

  6. Reboot the computer.

 

Microsoft Office should recreate the file after you reboot and open Word.
