Trend Micro

Trend Micro is a very good site to deal with a virus. Follow these directions. Click on the hyperlink for more information on that step. NOTE: This is an external website. They may move the location of the site causing the link to be bad or change the way the program runs so this is only a guide.

  1. Turn off System Restore
  2. Boot to Safe Mode with Networking
  3. Go to http://www.trendmicro.com
  4. Click on the link "Free Virus Scan"
  5. Click on the link "Scan Now, It's Free"
  6. Choose United States on the drop down menu (You may not see this. If you don't then skip to step 8)
  7. Click on Go
  8. Install Active X control. (If the active X is already installed, you will not see this. Just skip to the next step)
  9. Click on the button with the magnifying glass
  10. Click on Complete Scan
  11. Put a check in Local Disk (C:)
  12. Click Next
  13. Let it finish scanning
  14. If it found a virus, then click Next and choose delete.
  15. If it did find a virus, reboot and repeat the above steps to make sure all viruses is gone.
  16. Turn on System Restore
  17. Create a System Restore Point

 

If you can't get it to work in safe mode with networking then do the following in normal mode

  1. Turn off System Restore
  2. Limit MSCONFIG (Windows XP)
  3. Go to http://www.trendmicro.com
  4. Click on the link "Free Virus Scan"
  5. Click on the link "Scan Now, It's Free"
  6. Choose United States on the drop down menu (You may not see this. If you don't then skip to step 8)
  7. Click on Go
  8. Install Active X control. (If the active X is already installed, you will not see this. Just skip to the next step)
  9. Click on the button with the magnifying glass
  10. Click on Complete Scan
  11. Put a check in Local Disk (C:)
  12. Click Next
  13. Let it finish scanning
  14. If it found a virus, then click Next and choose delete.
  15. If it did find a virus, reboot and repeat the above steps to make sure all viruses is gone.
  16. Turn on System Restore
  17. Create a System Restore Point
