MacAfee Online Virus Scan

MacAfee offers an online scan to scan for viruses. Follow these directions. Click on the hyperlink for more information on that step.

1. Turn off System Restore
2. Boot to Safe Mode with Networking
3. Go to http://www.mcafee.com
4. Click on the link "Home & Home Office"
5. Click on the link "free Scan"
6. Click on  Scan Now
7. Install Active X control.
8. Choose Drive C
9. Click on Scan
10. Let it finish scanning
11. If it found a virus, follow the directions on the screen to deal with the virus.
12. If it did find a virus, reboot and repeat the above steps to make sure all viruses is gone.
13. Turn on System Restore
14. Create a System Restore Point  

 

If you can't get it to work in safe mode with networking then do the following in normal mode

1. Turn off System Restore
2. Limit MSCONFIG (Windows XP)
3. Go to http://www.mcafee.com
4. Click on the link "Home & Home Office"
5. Click on the link "free Scan"
6. Click on  Scan Now
7. Install Active X control.
8. Choose Drive C
9. Click on Scan
10. Let it finish scanning
11. If it found a virus, follow the directions on the screen to deal with the virus.
12. If it did find a virus, reboot and repeat the above steps to make sure all viruses is gone.
13. Turn on System Restore
14. Create a System Restore Point
