IDE Ports on Motherboard

Most motherboards that have IDE ports have two IDE ports on the board.(not always the case. Some motherboards only have one and the newer motherboards may not have one at all)

Primary is usually blue (not always the case)

Secondary is usually brown or black

The connector on the IDE cable is notched so it can only be plugged in one direction.

***NOTE: The end of the data cable that plugs into the motherboard is usually blue and the end that plugs into a drive is usually black or brown (not always the case)
