How to turn the firewall on or off 

To turn the firewall on or off, do the following

  1. Go to control panel (This link will open in a different window)
  2. Double-click Windows firewall
   
  1. Select your desired setting
  2. Click on OK
   

 

Here is another way to access the firewall

 

  1. Go to control panel (This link will open in a different window)
  2. Double-click on Network Connections.
   

  1. Click the Dial-up, LAN or High-Speed Internet connection  that you want to protect and then under Network Tasks, click Change Windows Firewall settings. This will open the properties.

   

  1. On the Advanced tab, under Network Connection Settings, Make sure your network connection is checked.

3rd Party Firewall

Consult the manual for instructions on turning on or off the firewall. To many firewalls on the market to list here.

Issues

Check your firewall settings. Also if you have windows XP and a firewall other than Windows XP, make sure you don't have both firewalls turned on. Only have one of them. Try turning all firewalls off and see if that has any affect. If it does then you will need to check the settings of your firewall. (Don't leave it turned off. Just leave it off long enough to see if it is the cause of the issue)
