LCD reduced resolution

If the resolution keeps reverting to a lower resolution, try these steps (click on the hyperlink for instructions on that step)

Try installing a newer driver for the video card. (Most people use either a NVIDIA or an ATI graphics card. Go to http://www.nvidia.com for NVIDIA and http://www.ati.com for ATI)
Boot to Safe Mode with Networking and remove the monitor and video card from Device Manager.
Reset the BIOS defaults.
Try a third party driver from www.omegadrivers.net.
