Better way to close a program that is frozen

When you are using the computer and it is frozen, the only choice you may have is to close a program that is not responding. Most people will go to Task Manager, highlight the program and click End Task. However that doesn't always close the program out entirely and the system can still hang, causing you to have to reboot the computer. That is because you closed the application but the process may still be running. It might be the process that is causing the issue and not the application.

It is best to close the application by ending the process. To do that, follow these steps.

  1. Press CTRL ALT Delete to bring up Task Manager For more information on Task Manager click here.
  2. Right-click the application that is not responding. (For the instructions we are doing My Documents. If My Documents was actually not responding, it would state that under status)

  1. Click on Go to Process

  1. The process should be highlighted

  1. Click End Process

  1. Close Task Manager

If the program still will not end, your only option is to shut the computer down.
