Format Flash Drive in NTFS 

Flash drives generally come formatted in FAT32. This is OK for small drives but can be a problem on larger drives. FAT32 has a 4GB limit. To change the format to NTFS, choose your operating system

Windows XP

To be able to choose NTFS format, perform the following

  1. Plug the device into a USB Port
  2. Open My Computer
  3. Right-click the drive's icon
  4. Click on Properties
  5. Click the Hardware tab
  6. Highlight the flash drive in the list of drives
  7. Click Properties
  8. Click the Policies tab
  9. Select the Optimize For Performance option
  10. Click OK
  11. Click OK again

IMPORTANT NOTE: Be sure to Right-click the drive in My Computer and click eject to avoid data loss.

Windows Vista

To be able to choose NTFS format, perform the following

  1. Plug the device into a USB Port
  2. Open My Computer
  3. Right-click the drive icon
  4. Click Format
  5. Select NTFS from the drop down list
