How to install a zip drive
Read the Safety Procedures. Very Important!!!
- Disconnect all cables in the back of the system (Including power cord)
- With power cord removed, push the power button for five seconds (still leaving power cord disconnected)
- Touch something metal on the system.
- Do not blow on the inside of the system. Your breath has moisture and electronics does not like moisture.
- Open the system (Consult the manual, myself, or manufacturer for the instructions on opening your case. There is too many variations of computer cases for me to give the steps here)
- locate the bay that is designed for the zip drive. (Consult the manual, myself, or manufacturer for the instructions on the location of where the drive goes. There is too many variations of computer cases for me to give the steps here)
- Some bays use clips to connect the drive in the bay, others use screws. (Check your manual myself, or manufacturer for instructions)
- Most cases have a 3 1/2 slot to put a zip. If the case you are installing the drive in doesn't have a 3 1/2 or doesn't have one free, you can install it in the 5 1/4 slot by using a kit for it.
- On the motherboard there is two controllers, IDE1 and IDE2. IDE1 is usually used for the hard drive. IDE2 is usually used for CD-ROMs, tape drives and zip drives. You can attach the zip to IDE1 with the hard drive. They say that the zip can slow the hard drive if it is connected on the same controller but I can't confirm or deny if that is true. o
- Install power connector (It is designed to go in only one way and make sure it is seated good)
- Close the computer up, connect keyboard, mouse, monitor and power to the system.
