Backing up files to an internal hard drive using backup software
Advantages
The backup is setup before hand so you don't have to keep selecting the files. The program can be scheduled to back up at any time you schedule. You can designate what you want backed up.
Here is an excellent program to backup your files, it is called Karen's Replicator. Once you set it up, it will automatically back up the files you want backed up. This software is free!
Disadvantages
It's not portable and can be affected by spyware, viruses and other problems.
