Memory allotment causes sluggish performance with Windows Vista

There are different types of processors on the market as follows

  1. Single core
  2. Dual core
  3. Quad core

The added cores speeds up the computer and makes it faster. However some programs (especially older ones) may not work well with Dual or Quad core processors. You do not have to turn off the dual or Quad to make the performance better in a program. You can set the individual program to only use one processor and allow other programs to use the features of Dual or Quad cores. To do this, do the following

  1. Press CTRL-ALT-Delete
  2. Click Start Task Manager
  3. Click the Application tab
  4. Right-click the application that seems slow (or isn't working)
  5. Click on Go To Process
   
  • Select the entry in the Image Name column
  • Right-click it
  • Choose Set Affinity At the processor Affinity dialog box
  • Remove the check mark from all but one of the CPU checkboxes
  • Click OK

  • Reboot the computer
  • Try the application
