 Setup Network Manually

Windows XP

 

Some of the items below may already be setup and will not be required to be modified. If that is the case, skip the step.

  1. Go to control panel (This link will open in a different window)
  2. Double-click on Network
  3. Double-click on Local Area Connection. (name of the connection may vary depending on how you set it up)
  4. Right click on the connection and click on Properties (If there is not a connection listed, then click on Make New Connection and follow the prompts.)
  5. Preferred method is to click on Setup a home or small office network and follow the prompts.
  6. If that doesn't work then right mouse click on the Local Area Connection
  7. Click on Properties
  8. Click on Install
  9. Highlight Client
  10. Click on Add
  11. Highlight Client for Microsoft Networks
  12. Click on OK
   
  • Now Client for Microsoft Networks is listed. When you installed Client, it sometimes installs TCP/IP automatically.
  • Highlight Services
  • Click on Add
  • Click on File and Print Sharing
  • Click on OK

  • If TCP/IP is already installed skip to step 23
  • Highlight Protocol
  • Click on Add
  • Highlight TCP/IP
  • Click on OK
    •    
  • Highlight Service
  • Click on Add
  • Highlight Q0S Packet Scheduler
  • Click on OK
    •    
  • Click on OK again
    •    
  • Reboot the computer
  • Set the computer name and the workgroup name (link will open in a separate window)
  • Now you need to share a file on the system
  • If you are using a router you will need to make sure the settings for your router are correct. You will need to consult the manual for your manual for the information on the specific router.
  • You should be able to see each other.
  • If you still can't get it to work, check the security level on the system. You may have to lower it.
