Prefetch
There is a debate on the prefetch folder. Some say to delete the contents to speed up windows, but yet others will say it will slow the system down. I do not know which side to take on this. Best thing is for you to Google prefetch, research the issue and make your own decision.
To Delete the contents of the prefetch folder do the following
- Open Windows Explorer
- Expand the Windows directory
- Highlight the Prefetch directory
-
Click Edit
-
Click Select all
-
Press the Delete key
-
Click OK
You can also selective delete the files. You do not have to delete all of them.
I will say that if you have a virus or serious spyware on your system, it would be wise to delete the contents of the prefetch folder to avoid any possibility that the virus or corruption is in there. As with any procedure, backing up important data on a system is always a wise thing to do before performing any procedures on the computer.
