Delete user under Documents and Settings

If you do not want a user profile any longer. Here is the steps to delete the user.

  1. Go to control panel (This link will open in a different window)
  2. Create a user account
  3. Reboot the computer
  4. Log in to the new user account
  5. Delete the old user account

That will delete the user from using the computer. Sometimes that will also remove the users files from Documents and Settings as well but sometimes it doesn't. If you want to get rid of the user directory listed there, follow these steps

WARNING!!! Any documents and files created under that user will be deleted when this is done. Any important files need to be saved in another location before doing these steps!

  • NOTE: After rebooting the computer, do not log into the old user account before trying to delete the account. If you log into the old account and then try to delete, windows will not allow the account to be deleted. It will say a file is in use. If that is the case, you will have to reboot the computer again and then try deleting the account.
