profile start menu

When we are talking about Windows Profile, we are talking about each profile that is on the computer. When you get your system for the first time, it will have a default profile. During setup, it will ask you what you want to name it. When you name it, that name becomes the profile name.

If you have two accounts on the computer, then when you start the computer up, it will ask you what account you want to sign in under. That account is the profile. So if a computer has two accounts by the name of John and Mary. Then you have two profiles, John's profile and Mary's profile.

The Profile Start Menu is tailored to that individual Profile. If John installs a program on his profile and tells the program to only install on his profile, then Mary will not see it on her profile. If John instructs the program to be available to all users, then Mary and any other profile will have access to the program. When you install a program for all users, it installs the program under All Users. For information about All user profile, click here.

The Profile Start Menu is located at the following address

Windows Vista and Windows 7

C:\users\Name\AppData\Roaming\Microsoft\Windows\Start Menu

NOTE: in the address above, put your profile name in place of Name above. Another words, if your profile name is Mary, it would look like this....

C:\users\Mary\AppData\Roaming\Microsoft\Windows\Start Menu
