How to clear the chat window
Facebook retains what you type in a message to another user for an entire day. This means you can retrieve what the conversation is later that day. If you do not want the conversation saved, you will need to clear the chat window. To clear it, do the following

On top right of chat you will see Clear Window

If you do not see Clear Window, you will need to scroll to the top of chat

Click Clear Window

The Clear Window gets rid of the conversation in the chat window, but it does not get rid of the log. You can still access what you talked about from the log even though you cleared the window. To delete the history, click here.
Note: Clearing the Clear window removes the chats from the chat window only but doesn't clear the conversation history. Same goes with the conversation history window. If you clear the conversation window but do not click the Clear Window hyperlink in the chat, the text in chat will still be there even though you cleared it on the conversation history. You have to clear both for it to be gone.
