Possible Fishing Scam
Not all of these are scams but some may and something for you to be aware of. It is a fishing scam. A fishing scam is a technique a scammer uses to try to find out information from you.
Majority of people use their past as part of their password. They do this because it is easy for them to remember the password. For example, someone may use their dogs name like Wilbur for their password, or they will use the name of the first dog they ever had like Fetch. They think that since it is not the dog they have now, no one would guess that is the password
Some will decide to make the password stronger by using two things they like and combine them. like their first dog's name Fetch and their favorite color red. The password would be Fetchred.
Then some would add numbers to it to make it harder to guess. They are right, it would be hard to guess.
However they have software programs that will try various words and numbers to see if it can find your password. The program is fast and can go through numerous variations in no time. However, the longer your password, the harder it is.
This is where the fishing scam comes in. A person will start a post. The post seems harmless and you think oh it is a good way to get to know each other.
The post will be like the following
1. What year was you born? Vallejo
2. What is your favorite color? Red
3. who is your best friend? Tommy
4. What is the middle name of your first child? Joseph
5. What is the name of your first dog? Fetch
Your password is FetchRed2442. You post the answers to the survey, even though some of them is part of your password. You are thinking it is safe because no one would know they are part of your password.
The scammer takes the answers you give and puts them in a program that will try all the answers you gave in various combinations and will also try it with numbers as well. Now they have a better chance of finding your password.
As I mentioned, not all these surveys are scams. How many of them are, I do not know. I just know that you need to be aware of the answers you give.
