Navigation bar links are missing when you preview your Web pages in FrontPage

SYMPTOMS

When you view or preview a Microsoft FrontPage Web page in a browser, navigation bar buttons and text hyperlinks may be missing from your pages. You may experience this behavior even if the navigation structure of your Web appears intact when you view your Web in Navigation view.

CAUSE

This behavior can occur if the navigation structure configuration file of your Web, Structure.cnf, is corrupted. This file is located in your Web's _vti_pvt folder on the Web server.

RESOLUTION

To resolve this issue, delete the Structure.cnf file from the _vti_pvt folder of your Web, and then republish your Web to the server.

To do this, follow these steps:
  1. Contact your Web server administrator to delete the Structure.cnf file from your Web's _vti_pvt folder on the Web server.
  2. Republish your Web to the server. To do this, follow these steps, depending on the version of FrontPage that you are using.
    1. For FrontPage 2002 and FrontPage 2000
      1. Open FrontPage
      2. Open your web
      3. Click File
      4. Click Publish Web
      5. Type  the path of your web server. For example, type the following: http://MyWebServer/MyWeb
      6. Click options
      7. Click Publish all pages, overwriting any already on the destination
      8. Click Publish
    2. For FrontPage 2003
      1. Open FrontPage
      2. Open your web site
      3. Click File
      4. Click Publish Site
      5. Click FrontPage and SharePoint Team Services in the Remote Web server type options
      6. Type the path of the Web server in the Remote Web Site Location box. For example, type the following:  http://MyWebServer/MyWeb
      7. Click the Publishing tab
      8. Click All pages, overwriting pages already on destination in the General section under Publish options.
      9. Click OK
      10. After the remote Web site files are listed in the right pane, click Publish Web site in the lower-right corner with the Local to Remote option selected.

A navigation structure shows how pages in a Web are related to each other, and provides FrontPage with a way to set up navigation bars. You can set up a navigation structure for your Web in Navigation view.

A navigation bar is a set of text or button hyperlinks used for navigating a Web site. For example, a typical navigation bar may have hyperlinks to the Web site's home page and its top-level main pages. You can also display a navigation bar on every page in your Web so that visitors can quickly and easily browse through your site. You can create your own text or button hyperlinks for navigation, or you can let FrontPage generate the navigation hyperlinks for you, based on the navigation structure that you have set up in Navigation view.
