What is a profile?

When people talk about a profile in Windows, they are talking about an individual account within Windows. Each profile has their own favorites, Desktop, and My Documents. They are found under Documents and Settings (for Windows XP) or Users (for Windows Vista and newer systems) under the name of their profile.

The profile is the one you sign into under Windows. For example, in the following picture, there is only one profile created on this computer. If there was two profiles, the names of the profiles will be here for you to sign into.
