Format Flash Drive in NTFS
Flash drives generally come formatted in FAT32. This is OK for small drives but can be a problem on larger drives. FAT32 has a 4GB limit. To change the format to NTFS, choose your operating system
To be able to choose NTFS format, perform the following
- Plug the device into a USB Port
- Open My Computer
- Right-click the drive's icon
- Click on Properties
- Click the Hardware tab
- Highlight the flash drive in the list of drives
- Click Properties
- Click the Policies tab
- Select the Optimize For Performance option
- Click OK
- Click OK again
IMPORTANT NOTE: Be sure to Right-click the drive in My Computer and click eject to avoid data loss.
To be able to choose NTFS format, perform the following
- Plug the device into a USB Port
- Open My Computer
- Right-click the drive icon
- Click Format
- Select NTFS from the drop down list
