This is a card that allows you to connect to the internet, to another computer or a network. The network card is also called an Ethernet card, which means the same thing as network card. There are different types as pictured above.

PCI version - usually is used for desktops and can only be used if there is an empty PCI slot available.

USB version - Can be used for either desktop or a laptop. It gets plugged into an available USB port.

PCMCIA version - is usually used for laptops but can be used on a desktop if the desktop has an adapter for it.
Cost of a network card can vary from $20 to $100 depending on the type, if it is new or used, and the specifications.
