Excel will not open due to a corrupt shortcut

To determine if the problem is with the shortcut or with Excel, do the following

Click Start
Click Run
Click Browse
Navigate to Excel.exe
1. The default location is C:\Program files\Microsoft Office\office1#(# can be 1 or 2)
click on Excel.exe to highlight it
Click Open
Click OK

If it opens this way, the problem is with the shortcut. If it still will not open, the problem is with Excel or somewhere else.

Problem with shortcut

Right-click the shortcut
Click Delete
Click Start
Point to All Programs
Point to Microsoft Office
Right click Microsoft Office Excel
Point to Send To
Click on Desktop (Create Shortcut)
