Copying files to a CD

This involves selecting the files manually that you want to backup and burning them to a CD using a burning software or Windows built in feature.

Advantages

You see the files that you have saved so you know which files were saved.

Disadvantages

You have to select each file and this can take time. Also if you are not careful you may miss a file. The files become read only till they are copied back to the hard drive. You can also forget to do a backup. If you forget and have a failure, you won't have the files backed up. Also sometimes one system may not read files from another system.

Tip
If you use this method, either burn two disks or combine this with another form of backup. Then try to open the CDs in a different computer. Just because the software says it was successful doesn't mean the data is on the disks, Also sometimes a CD will be read by one system and not another. By trying it on another system will let you know if burning the files were successful.

There are different methods to back up. Click on them for more information.
