What kind of processor CPU should I get?

Info on buying a computer

Computer technology changes almost daily. To keep up with the technology is a full time job. To advice someone on what type of computer to get, is an impossible task. Everyone's needs are different. Everyone's preferences is different. Therefore, these pages are for your information to make an educated decision. There is so much information that it may confuse you more than help you. However it is important to review all the information. Also as technology changes, some of the information provided here may not apply.

For more information that I don't have included here, see the following

Hardware questions       Information on computer parts.

There is currently two different types of processors (this may change as technology changes).

  • Celeron - is not very fast but they are cheaper than the Pentium. They are fine for every day use but you will notice a speed difference between this and a Pentium.

  • Pentium -  is a faster processor, but for those that are just going to surf the internet and use office, a Celeron would be fine. If you do high intensive use, a Pentium would be a better choice. However I would get a Pentium even if you don't need it. I think they run better. However they are more expensive.

There is also processors from AMD. I have never used AMD but I hear they are just as good if not better than Intel. You will have to research and make your own opinion on whether it is better or not.
