 Do I need a modem?

Computer technology changes almost daily. To keep up with the technology is a full time job. To advice someone on what type of computer to get, is an impossible task. Everyone's needs are different. Everyone's preferences is different. Therefore, these pages are for your information to make an educated decision. There is so much information that it may confuse you more than help you. However it is important to review all the information. Also as technology changes, some of the information provided here may not apply.

Today just about all modems will work on the system. Some brands may be more sensitive to noise and other variables than other brands but other than that, there is not much to choose from. (majority of people today do not need one of these so before buying one, decide if you need a modem)

If you do not have high speed internet but use dial-up, you will need a modem.

If you fax from your computer, you will need a modem.

If you fax from your printer, you will probably not need a modem on your computer to fax with because most if not all printers that have fax capability have a fax modem built in. If you only use a modem to fax and you fax through the printer, you will not need a modem on the computer.
