What kind of power supply should I get?

Computer technology changes almost daily. To keep up with the technology is a full time job. To advice someone on what type of computer to get, is an impossible task. Everyone's needs are different. Everyone's preferences is different. Therefore, these pages are for your information to make an educated decision. There is so much information that it may confuse you more than help you. However it is important to review all the information. Also as technology changes, some of the information provided here may not apply.

Low end systems may user lower wattage power supplies. They may or may not be strong enough for all the items you may want to run on your system. You will need to consider what the size of your power supply is and the needs that you have. A low end system may be fine for all your needs but you need to be aware that there may be some limitations.

For example, there is self powered and non powered USB hubs.

 

A low end power supply may not have enough power to run a non powered USB hub.

Note: As technology and systems change, the issue with power supplies being lower wattage may or may not still be an issue. As technology changes, so the requirements for parts. This issue may or may not apply.

Also, pre-built systems may not offer systems with higher power supplies.
