Defrag and SSD drives

I was told that you should not defrag an SSD drive. The defrag will wear out the drive. I have been reading about Defrag (which is now called Optimize in Windows 8) in Windows 8 and SSD drives. Windows 8 still uses defrag on SSD drives. However, when Windows 8 detects the drive as an SSD drive, it doesn't do the full defrag. It only does Trim hints only. Trim hints needs to be done with SSD drives and will not hurt the drive.

I cannot state if this is true with older versions of operating systems like Windows 7, Windows Vista, Windows XP and older.

I have not verified if the above is true or not. I have read this in different posts. Please research and make your own decisions about this. If I find an actual documentation on it, I will post it.
