Victoria Gail Horner

Class of 70

Died: Jul 1, 14

Maiden name: Horner

Horner, Victoria Gail – 62, of Nashville has passed away following a brief illness. Vickie was the daughter of Edward Brown and Sarah Travis Horner. A 1970 graduate of Madison High School, she pursued a career in cosmetology following matriculation from Miss Elizabeth Floyd’s in Murfreesboro. After moving back to Nashville in 1974, she worked as a certified cosmetology instructor at Madison University of Beauty for forty years. In 1987 Vickie started an additional career in property management, becoming a dedicated and professional on-site manager with Southern Services from which she had recently retired.

Vickie became a surrogate mom to all of her children’s friends, and was much loved by them in return, especially Mr. Preston Rankin, and Ms. LaTresa Harris. Vickie enjoyed her students, and often told her children that teaching them kept her young. She consistently attempted to make a positive difference in the lives of the residents of her building. She doted on her grandson, and did all she could to spoil him. The usual highlight of her evenings was helping him at the table with his homework, and a frequent retort to “What would his mother think about that?” was “He’s MY grandson.” Indeed he is, and her loss creates an infinitely large void in all our lives.

She leaves behind her daughter, DeAnna Nicole Horner, her son Russell Travis Horner, her much loved grandson Malachi Horner-Hurt along with her sister, Heather Vandagriff, a half-brother, Edward B. Horner, Jr., half-sisters Lisa Mosier and Lori Moss, nieces Kelby M. Miles, Sarah M. Vandagriff, Kerry Drury, Jamie Coy, her aunts and uncles Mrs. Frieda Hayes (Hermitage), Mrs. Margie Travis (Smyrna), Mr. Thomas G. Travis and Ms. Linda T. Travis (Murfreesboro), Mr. and Mrs. Charles C. Travis (Murfreesboro), numerous cousins with their extended families, and more dear friends, residents, and students than grains of sand on a beach.
