ANDERSON, JR., Alvie Born May 31, 1931. Died: August 18, 2008 after a prolonged illness. Preceded in death by his parents, Alvie and Otie Mae Anderson; sister, Jacqueline Anderson. He is survived by his wife of 58 years, Jean Scott Anderson; daughter, Karen Abbott and son-in-law, David Abbott; son, Steven A. Anderson; sister, Mrs. Murray Brosius; granddaughter, Katherine Abbott, Louisville, KY; grandson, Russell (Katie) Abbott; one great-grandson, Bryson Abbott. Mr. Anderson was a native of Nashville, TN. He was a former coach, teacher and assistant principal with the Metropolitan Nashville Schools. After retiring from public education as assistant principal of Neely's Bend Middle School, he taught 3 years at MTSU as an adjunct professor of education. He was long associated with the Southern Association of Colleges and Schools, evaluating mid-state and Nashville Schools for 30 years. He was a member of Madison Church of Christ. Funeral services will be conducted at 2 p.m. Wednesday, August 20, 2008 in the chapel of Spring Hill Funeral Home, with Norman Slate officiating. Interment will follow in Spring Hill Cemetery, with Gary Wade, Andrew Hastings, David Abbott, Russell Abbott, Clarence Carter, Miller Cheek and Wayne Robinson serving as Active Pallbearers. Honorary Pallbearers will be Mrs. Clarence Carter, Mrs. Elizabeth Hinman, Dr. Alvin Scott, Thomas Patton, Ms. Sara Sartain, Frances and Horace Hunter, Sue and Bill Brimm, Dan Thweatt, Charles and Ruth Thompson, Elizabeth and Henry Abbott, Robert L. Ballow, Bob and Ernestine Reasons, Coach Bob Cummings, Dr. Aubrey Moseley, Dennis Meeks, Paul Hunter, Murray T. Brosius, Peggy and Raymond Woodson and the Leipers Fork luncheon group. Visitation will be Tuesday, August 19, 2008 from 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. and Wednesday, August 20, 2008 from 1 p.m. until the time of the service at Spring Hill Funeral Home. Memorial contributions may be made to the Rheumatoid Arthritis Foundation, 421 Great Circle Road, Suite #104 Nashville, TN 37228 or to the American Heart Association, 1818 Patterson Street, Nashville, TN 37203.
