Data recovery Windows 95, 98, ME

NOTE: Do not try to back up programs or program files. You should have the software for them. If you transfer them, you can corrupt the new operating system.

NOTE:  If you have already done an install of windows or other type of recovery, you may not be able to recover the files from the system. You may have to contact a data recovery company for assistance. They are expensive and not 100% guaranteed.

  1. Try booting to Safe mode.
  2. Try booting to command prompt
  3. Try booting to DOS and save the files that way.
  4. You can try attaching the hard drive as a slave drive and see if you can access the data from there.
  5. You can contact a data recovery company. It is not 100% guaranteed and expensive.

Your CD-ROM burner will not work in safe mode or DOS (there might be 3rd party utilities on the internet to allow that however) A zip drive will work in DOS, if you have the DOS utility for it (You can download it from IOMEGA.com)
