MSCONFIG

Windows XP

To access MSCONFIG, do the following

  1. Access Run or Search window (Link will open in a separate window)

  2. Type in MSCONFIG

  3. Click OK

  4. On this page you can see what is running on your system, limit MSCONFIG, and launch System Restore

You can see what programs are running on your system. If you have spyware or a virus, they may be listed under services or Startup.

Any item unchecked in MSCONFIG does not get deleted. You can turn them back on at a later date by putting a check next to it again. The items unchecked won't run automatically when you run Windows, but you can Start them manually. If you like to find out what each of these files that are listed in the Startup, you can enter the name of the file in the search engine of Google at Google.com and it will bring up info on that file
