Install a local printer

There is different methods of installing a printer but this is a generic instructions that may apply enough to your install that you can use it.

  1. Access the printer driver by either having the CD or download the driver from the manufacturer's website
  2. There is two methods of connection
    1. Via parallel cable
      1. You will need to plug the parallel cable in before hand while the computer is off. Do not connect it while the system is on.
    2. Via USB cable
      1. You can plug the USB cable in while the system is on.
  3. If this is a new printer, it should have instructions to install the printer.
  4. If you do not have the instructions, follow the steps below
  5. Connect the power cord to the printer
  6. Connect the power cord to an outlet
  7. Remove all tape from the printer
  8. Examinee it good, it is easy to overlook a piece of tape
  9. Install the ink
  10. Add paper
  11. There is two different scenarios
    1. Some printers require the USB cable to be disconnected during the install of the printer software.
      1. On this type of install, the software will instruct you to connect the USB cable when it is time.
    2. Other printers require the USB cable to be connected before the install.
      1. The software will instruct you to connect the cable.
  12. Follow the instructions to finish the install.
