Sharing a network printer

If you are a part of a domain where there is a server setup for the printer, do not share the printer on the local computer. If it is shared on the local computer, you will not be able to print. You will get error messages.

To better explain this...

A printer server has all the printers installed on it. For this example the print server is going to be called printers. The printer that we are going to use is an Dell 3110 that has been named parkdell. When parkdell is setup on the printer server, we give it the name of parkdell. We tell the printer server to share the printer. The address is now \\printers\parkdell. We do tell the server to share it there.

Now on the local computer, you go into administrator and install the printer. When you install the printer, You point the computer to \\printers\parkdell. You do not select share the printer here. Select do not share. If you share it here, the local computer will not be able to print to it.
