How to back up Sticky Notes

Some times when you back up the user profile, it will not back up the Sticky Notes file because it is a hidden file. If you use the Sticky Notes and do not want to lose them, you will need to make sure they are getting backed up. You may have to manually back up the file.

To backup your Sticky Notes, you will have to go to the folder that the Sticky Notes are in and copy the file to the location you want to back the file up to. Here is information on where to find the file to back up.

  1. Unhide hidden folders

  2. Navigate to The profile you want to access

  3. Navigate to one of the following locations (Your exact location may vary depending on your operating system) (substitute your profile name for the word User below.)

    1. Drive\users\Name\AppData\Roaming\Microsoft\Sticky Notes

    2. Drive\users\Name\AppData\Microsoft\Sticky Notes

NOTES

  • Substitute the drive letter for Drive above

    • For example - If the drive you are looking at is drive C (not always but normally is drive C), it would look like this

      • C:\users\Name\AppData\Roaming\Microsoft\Sticky Notes

      • C:\Users\Name\Microsoft\Sticky Notes

  • Substitute the profile name for Name

    • For example, if the profile name is Mary it would be

      • Drive\users\Mary\AppData\Roaming\Microsoft\Sticky Notes

      • drive\users\Mary\AppData\Microsoft\Sticky Notes

  • Using the two examples above, it should read

  • C:\users\Mary\AppData\Roaming\Microsoft\Sticky Notes

  • C:\users\Mary\Microsoft\Sticky Notes

In that folder, you will see StickyNotes.snt. Back this file up to your backup location.
