Deal with virus

If you get a virus on Facebook, you need to change your password and run scans on your computer. Here is instructions on doing this. Items in blue are hyperlinks to instructions on doing that step.

  1. Change your Facebook password (Change it now so hopefully the virus cannot access your Facebook while you troubleshoot the issue)

  2. Let your friends know you are not sending the bad emails. Here is an example of some of the emails a virus will send.

  3. Update your anti-virus software. If you do not have an anti-virus software, you need to get one. There are anti-virus software that is available that is free and there are ones you can purchase. There is many good ones that are free but the one I know is good is Microsoft Essentials. Couple of good ones that you can buy is Trend Micro, and Mcafee. There are others besides these.

  4. Run a full scan with your anti-virus software. If it will not run, you may have to run it in safe mode (Some anti-virus will run in safe mode but others will not).

  5. Run Malwarebytes on your system. Malwarebytes has a version for Android phones.

  6. Change your Facebook password again. (Now that you got it fixed, you need to change it so you will be safe)

  7. If you are still infected after doing the above, you may need to also do the following

    1. Turn off System Restore

    2. Clear Internet Options

  8. Repeat steps 3 through 5 again

  9. Turn on System Restore

If you are still having a virus infection, you may need to get more in depth with your troubleshooting. Use the Virus Troubleshooter.
