Troubleshoot Microsoft Office Issues

Follow these steps to troubleshoot Microsoft Office. Not every step will work with all versions of Office and some steps may only apply to only a portion of office. If the step doesn't apply, skip to the next step.


  1. Before troubleshooting there is specific questions you need to answer Click here for the questions.

  2. Did you add software or hardware about the time this problem began? If answer is yes, try removing the hardware or software and see if the problem goes away.

  3. Check for patches and updates for office.

  4. Try System restore

  5. Try deleting Normal.DOT

  6. Try opening in office safe mode. Instructions on opening program in Office Safe Mode

  7. Try running Office repair.

  8. Try Uninstalling and Reinstalling Individual office software such as Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook, Publisher, Access, InfoPath

  9. Uninstall and reinstall the entire Office software

  10. Use the Software Troubleshooter.
